UK 2019

Below is the journal for our self-guided trip to Scotland, rural England, and London from May 17 through June 8, 2019. We spent the first two weeks in Scotland and rural England, and the last week in London.

We rented a car at the airport in Glaswow and returned it at Gatwick before heading into London. We got a Kia Ceed (a 4-door hatchback) with a 6-speed manual transmission. It turned out to be a good little car that got around 50 MPG on the highway.

Although we navigated mostly on our paper atlas, it was nice to have Android Car in the Ceed, for when we needed use Ken's phone to find a hotel or a particular attraction. Google Fi made using the phone in the UK seamless and easy.

Most of the time, we stayed in one place for a couple of nights. In retrospect, this was a lot of driving nearly every day, and we probably could have cut out one of the destinations (likely the Cotswolds) and divided that time up in some of the other places.

To make it more manageable, we've broken up the journal by the place we stayed:

We've tried to make the journal entries as compact as possible while still telling you some of the interesting things that happened each day. Hopefully, we've struck the right balance. If you'd like to slog through the entire set of pictures we took while on our trip, you can check out the Gallery page.
